Wells County Economic Development Outlines Strategic Plan

Wells County Economic Development received final approval this morning for the Strategic Plan for Economic Development in Wells County.

By a unanimous decision, the Board of Directors for the Wells County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development approved the roadmap that guides economic development efforts through 2018.

In approving the Strategic Plan, the Board confirmed the seven Core Functions of Wells Economic Development, which are in order of priority: business retention and expansion, talent retention/attraction/and enrichment, prospect management, building & site maintenance and development, small business support, infrastructure development, and fundraising.  The Core Functions are the key areas of focus for Wells Economic Development.

Development of the Strategic Plan included a survey of the Wells County Community to gauge support for various initiatives, and to assist Wells Economic Development in determining priorities.  A few of the priorities identified include increased efforts in areas of workforce development and career planning, a continued effort to provide the best possible business climate for existing industry and businesses, enhancing the quality of life opportunities in the county, and improving transportation between Wells County and our regional city center.

“This is a great time to be in Wells County!” Board of Directors President Sid Schwartz stated, “and with a plan such as this supported by the excellent partners involved in the Economic Development effort, there is little doubt the future will be equally as exciting.”  Schwartz commended the cooperative attitude between public, private, and regional entities in making Wells County a great place to do business as well as a great place to live.
